Jazz Singer was first Major Release of a talkie

Great movie also.

But anything by DW Griffeth is cinematic history.
The first "talkie" movie was in 1927. The Jazz Singer starring Al Jolson!
The first 'official' talkie was "The Jazz Singer" (1927), though it was quite different from what we consider 'talkie' today. Not all the dialogues were recorded.
